Megasorber LD5

Lightweight water-based liquid deadener

Features

Megasorber LD5 is a high-performance liquid deadener for panel vibration damping and noise control. The exceptional vibration damping properties are complimented by fast drying, ease of use, environmental friendliness and low flammability.

Megasorber liquid deadener applied to a Colorbond panel

Megasorber LD5 is a thixotropic paste and is specially designed for trowel, pour, brush, roll-on and air-gun spray applications. Once dry, the cured film is UV resistant and water resistant.

The dry film is light in weight without compromising the high performance. Consequently, this material is recommended for weight-sensitive applications, eg aircraft, marine and automotive applications.

Megasorber LD5 effectively reduces resonant vibration. Vibration energy is absorbed within the material and converted to heat. In addition to vibration damping, it also increases substrate transmission loss as a result of the reduction of panel coincidence and panel resonance effects.

Key Features

  • Water-based, non-toxic formulation
  • Light weight
  • Fast drying
  • High solid content
  • Non-sag formulation (thixotropic)
  • Excellent adhesion to most substrates, even to aluminium
  • High damping efficiency
  • Water resistant
  • UV resistant
  • Ignition retardant
  • Environmentally friendly
  • Ease of application—can be trowelled on or sprayed on

Key Benefits

  • Reduces resonant vibration and hence structure-borne noise very effectively
  • Ideal for weight sensitive applications—maximum damping performance with minimum added weight
  • Suitable for applications with outdoor exposure
  • Increases panel transmission loss
  • Easy to install and just clean up with water

Applications

  • Marine—hull panels, deck head and bulkhead damping treatment
  • Transportation—buses, trucks and rail-vehicles panel damping treatments
  • General industries—enclosure panel damping, hoppers and chutes, machinery guards, acoustic enclosures
  • Metal roof panel and wall cladding to reduce rain impact noise
  • Whitegoods—dishwashers damping treatment on the stainless steel panels
  • Automotive—damping treatment for door panels, roof panels, floor panels

LD5 can be trowelled or sprayed on. It is especially suitable for panels with complicated shapes. It can be painted over with an acrylic paint.
