            Megasorber FG acoustic foam panels utilise a patented fireproof sound-absorbing facing material Soundmesh® G8 (U.S. Patent No. 8167085, Canada Patent No. 2674986, Australia Patent No. 2009206197) to provide maximum sound absorption especially at low to mid frequencies.

            The unique facing material Soundmesh® G8 has high temperature resistance up to 550°C and Building Code Australia (BCA) Group 1 Fire Classification. It complies with IMO Resolution A653(16) requirements.

            Traditional fireproof faced materials and sound reflecting film facings (such as aluminium foil, mylar film and polyurethane film) have little or zero acoustic properties and tend to block noise from being absorbed by the underlying foam. In contrast, Soundmesh® G8 is engineered and tuned to maximise sound absorption.

            The Soundmesh G8 facing allows the noise through, breaks down the sound waves into little components and traps the noise inside where it is absorbed by Megasorber's acoustic foam panel.

            Megasorber FG uses hydrolysis resistant acoustic foam and has high durability (long service life) in hot and humid conditions such as marine and tropical environments. The foam is capable of operating continuously from -40°C to +120°C and intermittently to 140°C. Megasorber FG meets the requirements of GM Holden Australia Specifications HN 2483 - Acoustic Insulator.

            The built-in fluid / water repellent property of Soundmesh G8 provides for easy cleaning and maintenance of the facing and makes it suitable for outdoor applications. A non fluid-repellent G8 facing option is also available.

            Soundmesh G8 has four standard colours of white (WH), black (BK), grey (GR) and sandstone (SS). It can also be colour-matched to any specific colour, however a minimum order quantity will apply.

            For example:

            Megasorber FG25G-RB-DS: 25mm thick, grey base, water repellent, black Soundmesh G8 facing on both sides.

            1. Soundmesh G8 facing Colour codes: "G" = Grey; "B" = Black; "W" = White and "S" = Sandstone. Standard colours is black, white and grey. Other colours are available subject to MOQ (minimum order quantity).
            2. Standard thickness is 12mm, 25mm and 50mm. 100mm is made to order and subject to MOQ. We recommend FM100 if 100mm thick product is required.
            3. We recommend 1.25m x 2.2m (untrimmed) for container loading (full container loads).  Other customised sheet sizes are also available subject to minimum order quantity (MOQ).
            4. Soundmesh G8 facing may have some stripy appearance or small creases.
            5. Sometimes there is colour variation between batches, especially for the grey and sandstone colours. Soundmesh G8 facing made from different batches may be difficult to colour match.
            6. Thickness tolerance is ±1% and sheet dimension tolerance is ±1%.  
            7. Sheets will be supplied untrimmed, unless trimmed sheets are specified.
            8. Megasorber A200 adhesive is recommended for installing Megasorber FG foam panels.  Please refer to installation method for more details.
            9. Water repellent facing is recommended for easy surface cleaning.

            1. Keep Sheets Flat

            For product supplied in panel or sheet form, product must be kept flat during the handling and installation process. Bending or folding sheets will create creases on the Soundmesh G8 facing. Once formed, these creases are difficult to remove.

            4. Installing Panels onto Walls or Ceilings with Express Finish (with 20mm gap and no trim)

            Construction contact adhesive such as Megasorber A200 or Megasorber A100 spray-on contact adhesive is recommended to adhere the product onto the substrate. Photos below show the installation process.

            CAUTION: for large size panels (such as 1.2m x 2.4m) on ceiling or overhead applications, a mechanical fastening system is recommended to provide extra support. The photo below shows the combination of Megasorber A200 or Megasorber A100 spray-on contact adhesive and small screws if needed.

            5. Installing Panels onto Concrete Walls or Ceilings with Concrete Pins

            Concrete pins are recommended together with construction contact adhesive such as Megasorber A200 (cartridge) or Megasorber A100 spray-on contact adhesive. A typical mechanical fastening system is shown below:

            6. Other Edge Finishes

            Plastic, steel or aluminium U channels can be used to cover the edges. The photos below show examples of different finishes.

            Fireproof Tape for Installation of Soundproofing PanelsAlternatively, a matching Soundmesh G8 tape can be used to seal the edges and joins. The standard Soundmesh G8 tape colours available are: Black (BK), White (WH), Grey (GR) and Sandstone (SS).

            Recommendations for applying the Soundmesh G8 tape are:

            • The substrate surface must be flat, dry, free of oil, dust, grease and other contaminants.
            • Soundmesh G8 tape must be firmly pressed against the substrate upon application to ensure the adhesive has full contact with the substrate.
            • The application temperature is recommended to be at least above 10°C.
            • For products with water repellent G8 facing, the G8 tape can be applied with heat and pressure, such as an iron or a hot air-gun plus a pressure roller.

            7. Cutting

            The product can be hand-cut by a knife or machine-cut by a bench saw or rotating blade cutter with a fine tooth blade.

            We recommend wearing gloves during cutting. The Soundmesh G8 facing edges may cut or irritate the skin.

            8. Cutting Holes

            Use a saw hole cutter or a hole puncher as the drill bit to cut holes through the product. A typical hole puncher and drill bit are shown below:

            Megasorber A100 High-Tack Spray Adhesive

            An air-less spray adhesive system designed for installing Megasorber acoustic panels. It is supplied in a canister (17.2kg) or as an aerosol (500ml). The canister has a non-flammable propellant, making it one of the most user friendly and environmentally friendly spray-on adhesives. Estimated coverage: about 120m2 per canister and about 4m2 per aerosol.

            Megasorber A200 High-Tack, High Temperature Resistant Adhesive

            An odourless and fast curing adhesive. It is free of solvent, isocyanate, PVC and silicones. A200 is supplied in 290ml cartridges and provides excellent bonding for Megasorber acoustic panels. Recommended coverage: about one cartridge per 1.2m x 1.2m panel.
