Megasorber Soundmesh® G8

Fireproof Sound-Absorbing Material

Features

Megasorber G8 fireproof sound adsorbing fabricSoundmesh® G8 is a revolutionary engineered material that is thin and tough with unique acoustic and fireproof properties (patent applied for). The acoustic impedance of G8 is tuned, utilising the latest material technology, to maximise sound absorption.

Soundmesh® G8 is a smart material which breaks the soundwave down to little components, then traps and dissipates the soundwave within the spacer behind it.

It is widely used as a sound absorption facing for traditional sound insulation materials such as foam, polyester, polyfelt, polyester, glassfibre and rockwool.

This unique fireproof material has been engineered to maximise the sound absorption at low to mid frequencies. It provides a fireproof, protective, tough, durable and easy to clean surface.

Soundmesh® G8 can also be installed with an air gap between it and the wall, or hung as banners or curtains. The air-gap acts as the spacer. The air gap depth combined with the matched impedance of G8 results in sound absorption equivalent to the same thickness of conventional acoustic materials such as foam, mineral fibre and glass fibre. Soundmesh® G8 is therefore widely used behind perforated or slotted panels to provide the sound absorption.

Soundmesh® G8 is neither ignitable or flammable. It has high temperature resistance up to 550°C. G8 can be used in outdoor environments without degradation of performance.

Soundmesh® G8 can be supplied with a special water / fluid repellent version (product code: Soundmesh® G8-WR).

Fireproof

Soundmesh® G8 will not burn nor melt after exposed to naked flame. It also prevents the foam behind it from burning by cutting out the fire.

The unique sound absorption mechanism (patent applied for)

sound absorption
The unique sound absorption mechanism of G8

Soundmesh® G8 is a smart material with a solid membrane in appearance, but has a ‘microporous’ design to allow the noise to filter through. Whilst allowing the noise through, Soundmesh G8 breaks down the sound waver into little components and traps the noise inside. This noise is then absorbed by the foam or polyester behind the Soundmesh G8. Figure below shows how the sound is absorbed by this smart material.

This unique sound absorption mechanism has been confirmed by independent sound absorption test at RMIT University. Tests were carried out on 25mm thick acoustic foam and acoustic polyester with and without Soundmesh® G8. It is evident that from the test results (see graphs below) that the Soundmesh® G8 has boosted the sound absorption from NRC 0.45 to NRC 0.72 for acoustic foam and NRC 0.4 to NRC 0.65 for polyester.
