Soundproofing Composite C50:
foam-barrier-foam with fireproof acoustic facing

Features

Megasorber multi-functional compositeMegasorber soundproofing composites are specially designed for marine noise reduction. This Megasorber composite consists of 25mm thick acoustic foam with black acoustic facing, a flexible high mass noise barrier, 25mm thick decoupling acoustic foam and self-adhesive backing (optional). The soundproofing composite development results in increased sound transmission and sound absorption to maximise the noise reduction.

Megasorber soundproofing composites have a unique fireproof acoustic facing (Soundmesh® G8), which has been engineered to provide maximum sound absorption at low to mid frequencies. This facing complies with IMO Resolution A653(16) requirements. It is extremely tough and durable, protecting the composite from fluids and dust contamination and/or any mechanical damage.

Megasorber composites are manufactured from a hydrolysis resistant acoustic foam. The composite is especially suited for use in wet and humid areas, such as marine or tropical environments. Megasorber composites also come with a high performance pressure sensitive adhesive for easy installation.

Sound insulation composite with acoustic facing and self-adhesive backing

Key Features

  • Unique fireproof sound-aborbing Soundmesh G8 facing, complying with IMO Resolution A653(16) requirements.
  • Designed for maximum noise insulation of marine engine noise insulation (125Hz – 2000Hz);
  • Resists hydrolysis - foam will not rot under hot and humid conditions;
  • Resists liquids, dusts and sprays;
  • Tough and non-combustible facing;
  • Easily cut, shaped, fabricated and installed;
  • Self-adhesive backing for easy installation.

Key Benefits

  • Maximises noise reduction by providing high sound absorption and sound transmission loss.
  • Fully tested and proven efficiency in marine noise reduction.
  • Easy to install, ie low installation costs.
  • Long service life.

Applications

High efficiency sound absorbing and noise insulation material for noise reduction in marine industries. It can also be used for noise reduction in automotive, buses, transportation, locomotives, generator enclosures, reverberation control in commercial and industrial buildings.

IMPORTANT NOTICE AND DISCLAIMER

Specifications are subject to change without notice. Please contact us for the latest version. "Fireproof", "Non-flammable", "Non-combustible" means the product has successfully passed AS/NZS 3837, IS0 5660-1, ASTM E1354 Group 1 fire rating (AWTA test report No. 7-566397-CV). Patent applied for Soundmesh G8. The data listed in this data sheet are typical or average values based on tests conducted by independent laboratories or by the manufacturer. They are indicative only of the results obtained in such tests and should not be considered as guaranteed maximums or minimums. Materials and installation methods must be tested under actual service to determine their suitability for a particular purpose.

Installation Instructions

Important Notice and Disclaimer: These recommendations are for general guidance only. Materials and installation methods must be tested under actual service conditions to determine their suitability for a particular purpose.

1. Cutting

The product can be hand-cut by a knife or machine-cut by a bench saw or rotating blade cutter with a fine tooth blade. If cutting by hand, we recommend using a sharp Stanley and/or serrated knife.

We recommend wearing gloves during cutting. The Soundmesh G8 facing edges may cut or irritate the skin.

2. Edge Finish

Plastic, steel or aluminium U channels can be used to cover the edges. The photos below show examples of typical finishes.

Alternatively, a matching Soundmesh G8 tape can be used to seal the edges and joins. The standard Soundmesh G8 tape colours available are: Black (BK), White (WH), Grey (GR) and Sandstone (SS).

3. Product without PSA Self-Adhesive Backing

Liquid nail is recommended to adhere the product onto the substrate. A mechanical fastening system is recommended to provide extra support. Complete with trim.

4. Products with Self-Adhesive Backing: Surface Preparation

  • The surface must be flat, dry, free of oil, dust, grease and other contaminants.
  • Product must be firmly pressed against the substrates upon applications to ensure the PSA backing has full contact with the substrates.
  • The application temperature is recommended to be at least above 10°C.

Caution:

  • This product is not recommended for surfaces with wrinkles or pebbled finishes.
  • Adhesion test is recommended for low surface energy substrates (such as polypropylene, polystyrene and silicone rubbers, etc).

5. Peeling Off the Release Paper

  • Pinch the foam at the corner against the release paper.
  • Pull the foam back to separate it from the release paper.
  • Pick up the release paper at the corner and peel it off.
